ANTM Continues to Make Mistakes

I am so confused right now. Whitney, the plus-size southern belle, won Season 10 of America's Next Top Model over Anya, the couture-ready editorial goddess.

Ultimately, I think Whitney won because Tyra Banks caught a lot of flack for losing 30 pounds the season after she got on her talk show and proclaimed her "fat-ass" pride, so to make it up to the "real girls" that watch her show she proclaimed Whitney America's next top model. Sure, Whitney is beautiful, and, as Sarah says, "DA BOMB," but I don't think she deserved to win the competition over Anya. Anya was born a model. Her face is chiseled with small, beautiful features. She never fell flat on a photo shoot, and she knew her best angles and the best poses for her body and face. Modeling came naturally to Anya in a way that no other contestant on the ten seasons of this ridiculous show can boast.

I have a few complaints and a few praises for this episode of the show.

1. Letting Fatima go was a good move. At first I was pissed because I thought the final two should be Fatima and Anya, but then I admitted that Fatima was a disaster. She was inexplicably arrogant, she couldn't take direction, and (don't hate me for this, please) I think she only trotted out the genital-mutilation claims when it was convenient for her. Until an agency takes her aside and tells her that with her current attitude she will never make it down a single runway, she won't make it down a single runway.

2. This runway show was fantastic. It wasn't some stupid concept show where they had to run down a corridor screaming or pretend to be some cro-magnon evolving into a modern homo sapiens in heels. They got them to wear Versace. There were sexy, sexy glittery men wearing only underwear. The runway didn't zig-zag or move or go pitch black or pull any annoying tricks that happened in past seasons. It was a simple, elegant, high-budget, typically-Italian runway show. Loved it.

3. They should have had Donatella Versace make an appearance. Hello! She picked the dresses that Anya and Whitney wore in the final runway show, so I don't care how much money The CW had to shell out to get her to make an appearance, maybe Donatella Versace actually being on the show would have given it a little credibility.

4. Whitney looked just like Heidi Klum on the runway. She really did. It was weird. If I had consumed two drinks, I might have forgotten whether I was watching ANTM or Project Runway. I think that bodes well for her. And if Willa Ford hadn't already filmed the Anna Nicole Smith biopic, Whitney could have made a couple thousand off that comparison, too.

5. Anya should have won. She really should have. Especially over Whitney. Whitney was a great model and a beautiful girl, but everything that she did well, Anya did better. Anya will go far, thank goodness. Maybe not winning the competition was the best thing that could happen to her. None of the past top models have done anything spectacular. The most famous one was Eva Pigford, and that's only because she dated Missy Elliott.

Here's to hoping Anya actually is America's next top model regardless to what Tyra Banks says.

I feel the shows integrity is under threat. On one hand it's good they're trying to put a positive message out their about larger body type, but Whitney was pushed through the whole competition. I've seen contestants get the boot for much less. Anya was a complete natural. So, once again, good for American's women, not so good in terms of the honestly and objectivity of the judges.

And PS: I found Whitney's photos VERY amateur looking much of the time.

I agree 100%. I'm posting this comment with permission from the review at http://pophangover.com/antm - they sum up what I think so perfectly:

I was left feeling like the producers wanted a “Plus Size Winner” from day one of casting the show. It just felt like Whitney was “set up” to win. Never before would the judges have tolerated someone who continually made such heinous faces in photos, or was SO FAKE every time they opened their mouth. Look at the runway show alone. Anya was given clothes with huge, long trails and material so tight she could barely move. I could almost see the producers back stage, poking needles into an Anya voodoo doll in hopes she’d fall and thus offer “justification” for giving the title to Whitney. But I’m not buying it. It felt rigged, it felt fake, and Whitney - though she did look decent in a FEW shots during the show, should not have won this competition. What a pathetic representation of America’s Next Top Model and what a gross, pandering insult to “plus size” women on the producer’s part… thinking heavier American women will be able to relate to her, just because she has a few extra pounds on her. SHE’S OBNOXIOUS, she’s not a good model, and I’ve seen more genuineness in the jewelry display case at my local pawn shop. Ah, I feel much better now. End rant.

I think that Whitney should not have even made it to the top 5.The people I thought would win the competition from the begining was Katarzyna,Fatima,or Anya. When Kat went home I thought something was up.Then on the Finale I knew that Fatima was going to leave.I was hoping it was Whitney who was leaving. Then the biggest bomb dropped Whitney won. That should have been Anya. They purposely gave Anya a tight dress to make Whitney look good.THE SHOW FRIGGIN MESSED UP AGAIN.They picked Adrian that sucked,Nicole sucked too.It seems like none of these girls do good when they win anyway. But Kat,Fatima,or Anya could have changed that.I feel bad for the people in New York who have to look at a billboard with Whitney's face on it.

Okay, I didn't sat Whitney was fat or ugly, nor do I think that she is either of those things. I just don't think she deserved to win over Anya and a handful of the other girls.

She's not fat. At all.
